Firestats -- Be I The Only One?
Who gets errors when he tries to view his? A very small issue...just curious. I just miss my little flags. :)

No, you're not the only one who gets errors when he tries to view his. Not that I tried to view yours, of course.
I'm a good girl.
But I tried to view mine and sure enough I got errors - a big red angry rectangle of errors that made it very clear that I was being extremely nosey and should go away forthwith.- Posted 1 year ago #
Nope - I haven't been able to see mine for days. And the big angry red rectangle has everyone's wibsite listed on it so I think it's all of us.

Me too. It irritates me because I am a nosey cow and like to see who has been watching my life from a distance.

I'm very sorry everyone, it appears FireStats has had to be disabled by the hosting company. Apparently it was that which caused the site to be very slow, and may well have caused all the 404 and 500 errors we've had.
So, for the time being, there are no stats. I *may* be able to write my own stats program (like the one on the old Wibsite), but I can't promise when that will be.
I've just sent an apologetic email to the hosts - apparently this problem affected lots of other websites. Gah.

Yeah it's ok Chris. No stats is good for my wiblogging quality I think.. I don't have to say something when I have nothing to say :D

Something that may save you time - could you enable Aksimet stats instead of writing your own program? I use Aksimet on my other Wordpress blog and I've never had any problems (or any angry e-mails from my hosting company, either).

Hi rosamundi. Although the Wordpress stats are very nice (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/stats/), and they allow people to use them on other sites, it would require every Wiblogger to have their own Wordpress.com account, and they'd only be able to check the statistics at Wordpress.com - not in their Wiblog dashboard.
There are other options, but I looked into most of them before the new site went live and wasn't impressed. I should be able to pull over quite a lot of the code from the old Wibsite and create a new statistics package. Just no promising when I can do that, mmkay?

Just been exploring the new dashboard and I noticed that there is an option to enable the Firestats plugin.
I didn't really want to press it in case it broke everything. Should the option be there still? Are we now allowed to use it?- Posted 1 year ago #
Hi farli. Hmm, that option shouldn't be there. I'll make sure it's removed - PLEASE don't enable it or I'll get in trouble again. Thanks for letting us know.

I'm sorry I haven't had chance to get some stats running for your Wiblogs yet, it's been a busy few months. I'll try - I really mean it - to see if I can do something later this week.

Hello all. You may be pleased to know I've started work on the new statistics system. It's going to be very basic to start with, but it can be extended if required.

Thank you Chris - I've missed the stats. FWIW, I think the old wibsite stats package you did before was better than firestats and the wordpress one. Basic is good! (as are flags, but no pressure ...!).

Right, I've just set the new stats plugin live so it's hopefully collecting statistics now for everyones blogs. There aren't any reports to see, I haven't done that bit just yet. I'll work on that this week once I see the statistics being collected OK.
If there are any weirdnesses on your blog please let me know - pages not loading, strange errors etc.
And there's one extra thing in these new statistics you may like. As well as saving the country of the visitor, it saves their city as well. How close the city saved is to the real location of the visitor I couldn't say. I told me I was in Cambourne (I think) when all of you know I'm deep in the heart of the People's Republic of West Yorkshire.
Anyway, thanks to http://www.hostip.info/ for the geolocation API.

I wish the stats to be linked to Google Earth with minute by minute tracking of all visitors. This can be done with the aid of government funding as it will be useful for tracking undesirables i.e. anyone reading my wiblog. I'm sure that you'll get a few hundred billion as it can be linked to other government "security" measures.
