Spam comments
Lots of them. Anyone else getting them too?
I don't need any viagra, thank you.
I just keep marking them as spam and can keep doing that, but it's a bit sad when you see the little orange flag saying you've got comments and you dash over there to moderate them with a happy smile that somebody loves you, and it turns out to be a spam delivery.- Posted 1 year ago #
Can we have Akismet (the wordpress spam filter) added? I have that on my other wordpress blogs and it gets rid of most of the spam for me. I know it sometimes takes a bit of 'teaching' (occasionally it grabs genuine comments, but you usually have time to rescue them).
Have only had 1 spam comment so far here (no thank you I am fully insured already), but my others get quite a lot so I'd hate for them to build up and have to get rid of them all manually.

Hi, yes, spam is a problem. I've installed Akismet and things should automatically be better. I hope. Let me know here if comments don't seem to be saving.

Thank you so much for the spam filter - I'm getting hundreds and hundreds and the filter makes it so easy to kill them.

Hi. Thanks, Akismet is great. It blocks between 30 and 50 spam messages a day. What I'm wondering is, now that my Firestats are working again, and I am seeing persistant IP addresses going to the same page countless times a minute, i've figured they must be spamers. is there a way of blocking persistant offending IP addresses? i don't really understand pings and trackbacks, but my akismet stats has said i have a few of each, so i'm wondering if that is kind of the marker that allows various spammers to return so many times?
what should i do?

Think of spam as the Internet equivalent of weather. Best current estimates are that about 80% of all email is automatically generated spam :-(

I feel very unloved. I only get between 0 and 3 blocked each day :(
And I don't have compulsory email address or comment moderation ticked in my options thing. I should be getting more dammit!!

Nessa, I thought firestats had been removed from the wibsite because it was causing so many problems ?????

Yes, Firestats should not be there - it caused massive problems on the server. I still intend to get some stats working, but it is going to take a little while.
